If you have the opportunity to engage in business with Japanese companies, it's essential to grasp the significance of informal communication.  Japanese businesspeople typically don't openly express their true feelings during business meetings, especially when dealing with new acquaintances. 

In such cases, these meetings tend to focus on information sharing. To establish trust, it's crucial to participate in a social drinking gathering known as a "Nomikai."  Sharing a meal and drinks together is the most effective way to cultivate trust with Japanese companies. While this practice has evolved due to COVID, it remains true for the majority of companies.  


This principle extends beyond building trust with companies; it also applies to fostering trust among team members. 


Recently, I had the opportunity to watch fireworks with our international team members. This experience provided a chance to learn about their personal lives, and it allowed them to understand who I am as well. 

Business can be challenging, and at times, we must navigate serious situations. 

Establishing trust within my team is paramount for surviving these tough times. While I may not have emphasized the importance of formal communication in your work, informal communication holds significant weight, especially if you intend to collaborate effectively with Japanese companies or team members

 Some of you may already know this, but I make it a habit to read 10 to 15 books every month. It’s not so much a hobby—rather, I feel uneasy if I’m not constantly exposing myself to new ideas, disciplining my mind, and learning with hunger and intention. What is the "Kinoko Management" style for Hattori??

 As the season for warm, hearty meals approaches, mushrooms— kinoko in Japanese—frequently appear in dishes like hot pots. I personally love maitake mushrooms, although “mushroom” is how we refer to them in English. Interestingly, we intentionally call our management style Kinoko Management in English as well, keeping the unique essence of this concept. Mushrooms are not vegetables but fungi. Their defining role is in promoting decomposition, enabling the cycle of life to continue. What we see above ground—the mushrooms themselves—is just the tip of the iceberg.
