Living Honestly Is the Easiest Way
Unfortunately, I also make mistakes.
I misunderstand things, make assumptions, and sometimes fail to communicate clearly.
There is a part of me that wants to say,
“No, I told them,” or “I already did my part.”
But when I look honestly, there are many times when the fault is clearly mine—because I didn’t explain well enough.
At that moment, I have two choices:
use power and excuses to cover it up, or admit my mistake and reflect.
If you look at it in the short term, covering up may feel easier.
But if you look at life as a long journey, admitting your fault is far easier. That much is certain.
Living honestly means having no front and no back.
When there is no double face, you don’t need to lie to yourself.
You may fool others once or twice, but you can never fool yourself.
You start living with anxiety—wondering if your lie will be exposed.
Worse still, when lying becomes normal, you begin to justify yourself.
People around you are not foolish.
They quickly understand, “That person lies” or “That person hides things,”
and they keep their distance while being polite on the surface.
Good people rarely gather around those who lie and deceive.
Once, I told another company president,
“I think living honestly is the easiest and best way.”
He replied,
“That may work for you, but being too honest with employees is tough for them.”
Even now, I don’t fully understand that.
When the company is not doing well, is it wrong to say,
“We are struggling now, so let’s work together and rebuild”?
If we only judge people silently or complain behind their backs,
how can we support their growth?
If you have concerns but don’t speak up,
then later say, “I had doubts from the beginning” after a project fails—
what value does that really have?
Every leader has different values, so it’s natural that we think differently.
But for me, honesty is better—for myself, for employees, and for my family. I truly believe that.
A life where you don’t have to deceive yourself is very easy.
You don’t need to make yourself look bigger than you are.
You don’t need to fear being exposed.
You can live as you are.
If you fail, you reflect and improve.
If things don’t go well, you think and act together with your team.
Since I started living this way, life has become much easier and more fulfilling.
As wise people have said for centuries,
I truly believe the best way to live is honestly, sincerely, and naturally.
